why is baby modeling and child modeling legal?
I do not understand why any mother would use her infant or child to gain money or why they would subject them to such an industry that profits from the exploitation of children and infants. It is not legal for children under the age of 15, depending where you live, to work in any other industry so why is modeling and acting legal? I know that parents use the excuse that the money goes to the child's college fund but why should the child be earning the money for their fund? It is the parents' job to work hard and earn money for their children's education.

- Comrade, the work must be done. Oshkosh B'gosh must have the tiny ones to model their clothes. Power to the (little) people.
- This question would be answered properly if you asked in the proper place. Y!A is not going to give you a complete answer because we don't know. We don't work in the government...write a letter to your MP and ask them.
- I Think some parents are obsessive about this stuff but don't see a big problem with it. I just feel sorry for kids who have parents that pressure them to do things because they want to live there own dreams through there kids.
- While I don't agree with it, I don't think many parents use it to exploit and gain from their children. I know a mother who done it, all monies she gained where put into her child trust fund. Financially she gained nothing. She said all she got from it was pride. Like I said, I would never do it, but I think you are wrong to tar all with the same brush. I sell a lot of my daughters old stuff on ebay, the money I gain either buys what she may need, or it goes into her bank account - does that mean I am exploiting her? Because, I should be buying the stuff from my own pocket? Like I said, some do it because they are proud, it just happens that they get money for it. What, should she say - no keep your money - why do that when it can benefit her child? It isnt done to fund a college education, but the benefit of the money is there and she doesnt profit from it herself.
- It's not really the industry that is exploiting them its the parents if yuo can even call it exploitation. Someone needs to market the baby products industry
- ugh! i agree! and what about those gawd awful baby/toddler beauty competitions.... their like "toddler hooker parades"..... disgusting. and then television has to exploit it further and make a reality series about these disgusting parents and the way they douse their daughters with paint-can make up and parade them in skimpy clothes for a cash prize!!!!!!! wth??? s@
- They want their kid to be the next Kim Kardashian.
- let me tell you from the point of view of a parent who lets her child model would you always buy something without pictures or displayed for yourself your home or your child? everyone needs things to look at weather it be the couch on the catalouge the plastic model in a window or the baby on the box of nappies my son has been a model for just over a month and he has had 1 job all monies paid go into a bank account that we do not have accsess to unless both signatures are presant like any mum i think my son is adorable but he has gorgeous red curly hair and a great personality when he gets to the age to choose i will let him and when we get offers of jobs we choose if we want to go to the audition or not i also agree with another answer of am i profiting from my child by selling old toys and things to purchase new items not every parent can work hard to earn money for their child we all have differant situations personly my partner had his hours cut so he didnt loose his job and i stay at home and try and work when i can others are single mums or have a disability in their family and this is a way to provide for his future maybe you should think about things from another point of view before you accuse people from being a bad parent we are all trying our best in our own way and ,make mistakes along the way we arnt perfect
