Modeling Application

How should I go about getting into modeling?

I have already been contacted by one agency in NYC but I keep hearing illegitimate little things about them. I want to be an average height/size plus sized model and is a Philadelphia native. I would be considered a novice because I have not done any modeling professionally. However, I feel that I can hold my own with the part-time modeling while going to school. I just need some legitimate advice from people who are models or agents and really know the ins and outs of the business. Thanks!

  1. Don't go to a modeling school. Get a portfolio of pictures of yourself and go to every modeling agency in town. Modeling schools will take your money. Modeling agencies have their own training and they will show you how to get free portfolios. Go to a legitimate agency: Ford Modeling Agency, Wilhemina's Modelding Agency, and Ophelia Devore Modeling Agency.
  2. What agency was it? I was signed in december without ANY EXPERIENCE (im only 17) and i heard bad things too, but since then i have had the ride of my life- so its not always that the agency is bad or whatever. Do what i did- i sent photos of myself *head on* and sent them to numerous agencies over the internet. A month later, i had a booker on the phone asking me to go to NY. Now, i am signed with a 3 year contract and am being paid really well. e-mail me if you want to know more! (: good luck
  3. im a new model in UK and im of average height. you need to start from somewhere. right, tip number one..get a portfolio of professional pictures of yourself, or pictures with a good background of yourself and ring up any modelling agency you find. (now portfolios are very expensive depending on how much you can afford. over here it's 250 pounds to 550).. when you ring up a modelling agency, you must find out if you are GUARANTEED a modelling job because if you're not, you don't get paid. you need to find out what they do, what you need, what height and weight you have to be.. now some modelling agencies WANT MONEY..for registration. that's bullshit, you dont need to pay money for registration, if at all, you should pay a very low amount. e.g. $10 or 20. then the clothes and shoes you need should fall after all that. you'll be nervous at first, but trust me, its the best experience if you're into all that. good luck. =]
  4. Look at http://www.thefashionfix.com It is a website written by an ex Vogue model and it tells you how to become a model, the pitfalls to avoid, everything. One thing it does tell you is don't spend ANY money to get an agent. Don't get a portfolio done, or anything. Instead it tells you how to approach agents the best way. Good Luck.
